Class 1: Introduction to Natural Perfumery Part 1, Saturday Oct. 14th 10:00am-2:00 pm
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Anyone Interested in learning how to create a well balanced natural perfume from an award winning perfumer.
WHAT WILL I LEARN? Natural perfumery is an art tracing back thousands of years. Once forgotten, Natural perfumes are now the fastest growing market segment of the perfume industry. Whether you want to learn how to make natural perfumes for yourself or have dreamed of launching your own line of fragrances, make sure you sign up for this workshop early as it's expected to sell out.
Students will learn about:
The components of natural perfumes: essential oils, absolutes, floral waxes, concretes, and alcohols.
The vernacular of scent.
IFRA, rules and regulations.
Importance of notekeeping (formularies, impressions, revisiting.)
Top, middle and Base Note Classification Weighing/Measuring
Labeling and Aging
Proper storage of perfumes and perfumery materials
Accessory notes requiring dilution
WHAT WILL I ACHEIVE? A basic working knowledge of the art of natural perfumery.
WHO IS TEACHING ME? Your instructor, the fabulous Charna Ethier is the nose and founder of Providence Perfume Co., an award winning natural perfumery specializing in luxurious botanical fragrances. After spending years working for large beauty and fragrance companies such as Aveda, she desired to create her own line of 100% natural fragrances. Her perfumes have been featured in numerous magazines and print publications such as W magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Organic Spa, and Mode. She has appeared locally on The Rhode Show, and her Fifi award nominated fragrances have received critical acclaim throughout the fragrance industry.
WHAT WILL IT INCLUDE? Under Charna's guidance, workshop attendees will create and take home over $300.00 worth of materials including:
-2 liquid perfumes
-1 kit of 10 essences (to take home after using in class.)
-1 accessory note kit
-1 tincture for perfumery use
-approximately 4 + solid perfumes
-formulation notebook for recording perfume mods
-Valuable handouts containing reputable sources for ordering supplies, as well as formulation guidelines.
Class 2: Creating Solid Perfumes Using Exotic Waxes and Butters Saturday Oct. 14th, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Solid Perfumes have remained popular for centuries. Portable, moisturizing, discreet and fragrant these perfumed balms gently scent the skin while providing hydration. The wax and oil base allows these balms to wear close to the skin but last for hours. Excellent as gifts and easy to make, solid perfumes are the perfect introduction to the art of natural perfumery. We will be making our own solid perfume balms using a bevy of beautiful natural ingredients. We will discuss the properties attached to each essence. Attendees will learn how to formulate their own solid perfumes utilizing pure floral waxes such as jasmine and rose, butters, beeswax and oils and will leave with three to five completed solid perfumes of their own creation (depending on time.)
Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen for note taking.
Class 3: Marketing/Branding/Sourcing/Promotion 101 Saturday Oct. 14th, 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm
Now that you've created your own amazing perfumes how to you sell them? How do you get them featured in national magazines? How do you build an online presence? Little budget with big goals? No problem!
Deemed a one woman marketing dynamo on a budget, Charna Ethier (founder and perfumer of Providence Perfume Co.) has quickly garnered national attention for her fine fragrances. She will share her secrets for creating an attention grabbing brand without breaking the bank.
Invaluable information on the following topics will be shared and discussed:
-wholesaling your product
-sourcing packaging suppliers
-reputable suppliers for packaging/branding/printing
-creating a pricing structure
-selling your products online
-creating custom products for salons, spas, boutiques and clients
-incorporating social media marketing
-do's and dont's for social media interaction
-the best way to get your product in the hands of magazine editors
-the symbiotic relationship between critics, perfumers and bloggers
-how to market your perfume to achieve the greatest exposure
-photography and graphic design standards
-how to choose an e-commerce platform
This class is packed with invaluable information that is rarely shared with such forthright honesty and humor. Attendees will leave with a personalized marketing action plan and a clear concept of where they want to take their fledgling, pre-existing or concept stage business!
Class 4: Introduction to Natural Perfumery Part 2, Sunday Oct. 15th 10:00 am- 2:00 pm
This class will focus on more advanced perfumery techniques. Topics include the following:
-creating accurate dilutions by weight or volume
-tips on creating perfumes with sillage
-differences between alcohol bases
-tincturing botanical material
-correctly labeling perfumes
A large part of the class will be spent on accessory notes, unlocking their power and learning to harness their potency. Students will also create their own take home tinctures and receive an accessory note kit for further evaluation at home.
